My Students

My students are fascinated with Earth processes. They love working with hands-on activities and are especially curious about rocks and geology. Our school district is so committed to math and science excellence, but has faced major budget cuts this year.

I teach 6th and 8th grade Earth/Physical Science and an elective Aerospace course at a rural middle school in Washington State.

We investigate our home planet and extend our thinking to other planets in the solar system. In order to gain an understanding of the geology of other planets, my students need a firm understanding of Earth's geological processes.

My Project

My students are anxious to work with sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks. Living in a state with an active volcano (Mount St. Helens), they are especially curious about the formation of rocks and landforms. With the purchased materials, my students will use math and science based skills such as measurement, classification, and sorting to work with samples of rocks. They will also engage in an Earth Science lab experience that includes stations that focus on geology, meteorology, astronomy, oceanography, and environmental issues. They will use scientific inquiry which includes student-developed questions as well as data analysis.

Your help will ensure that my students integrate math and science as they own their learning!

They will use the same skills that geologists use in the field in order to understand our home planet.
