Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The two dozen students who will use this MacBook are sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade library aides. They each help out five hours a week, in different shifts throughout the school day, at the library here at our South Florida K-8 center.

Over 85% of the students at our school come from households with below-average income.

The kids tend to be first-generation Americans whose parents have recently arrived in the U.S. from the Caribbean or from Central or South America. We do not have an affluent PTA that could help us purchase resources for the media center.

My Project

The library aides' main assignment is to make interactive posts and videos for our school website, social media, and for regional and state competitions. For this, the kids need quite sophisticated video-editing software - but the software also has to be user-friendly. Last school year, we experimented with different video-editing programs, but they were confusing and very time-consuming. We have researched quality, easy-to-use programs and our best strategy would be to use the advanced iMovie program that comes with a MacBook. This would be a fantastic way for the kids to learn video-editing skills - and would really help the school communicate better with our stakeholders. Please lend our kids a hand!
