This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am designing a mosaic-making project for a middle school art club. Students in grade 6 will create and select mosaic patterns, cut tiles, choose color schemes, and learn the techniques of setting tiles and grouting. Through this hands-on experience, students will build self-awareness, self-expression, confidence, and perseverance.

To complement my school's STEM focus, I'm planning a mosaic-making project for my middle school students.

While my students are curious and inquisitive about the world around them, my school does not have a visual arts teacher. This project will allow students to explore the intersection of art and science while while also honing their artistic skills.

They explore patterns, which are not only beautiful in mosaics but also important in science, technology, engineering, and math. When students create mosaics, there is math involved including symmetry, patterns, and shapes. Students use problem-solving abilities to create and identify various patterns.
