Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with groups of challenging, middle school to high school students. This comes with varying levels of health challenges to address the student's needs. Often students are met with difficult situations, however, it is my challenge to motivate them for optimal success. My students are coming from different backgrounds and experiences in elementary & middle schools. As if this wasn't enough to handle, they are dealing with personal and physical changes, therefore experiencing many uncertainties of life at such a young age. Oftentimes, students may come in and it is evident that they do not have the necessary personal care products at home for effective self-care. These requested items will allow ALL students to have the necessary products to care for themselves and look and feel their best. It will eliminate any biases that may have arisen over someone looking different.

Many students are dealing with everyday teen issues such as personal hygiene issues so deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste will help combat some of those challenges.

Often students come in hungry or need a snack during the day so the requested food will aid in this request. These snacks along with bottles of water are something that can be given to the students with little loss of instructional classroom time. Students come in from recess with scrapes and cuts and are at an age where they are very self aware. Requesting band aids, especially those that reflect the various skin tones show our sensitivity to their self-awareness. The students are losing or injuring their teeth, the tooth holder allows them to store their teeth and bring their teeth home safely.

These are some examples of how the requested items will assist in a more positive learning experience.
