My Project

My students are dealing with greater mental health challenges than ever before. As a teacher for twenty three years, I am seeing many more students with anxiety, problems with peer relationships, and difficulty processing negative attitudes and emotions. Creating a special place in the classroom for them to decompress and re-set to a healthy and positive mindset is my goal for this project.

The air purifier will help me create a clean and calming space in the art room for my many students with asthma and the comfy chair will become the foundation of a Calming Corner.

This will be a safe space for students to decompress, and to find a way to recenter when needed. The neon sign with the message "Everything Is FigureOutAble" will add to the spirit of overcoming negativity and working out problems. A Gratitude Journal and markers and colored pencils will be provided in the Calming Corner as well, with the goal that students can draw or write three things they are grateful for, and doodle and draw to help them relax and feel better.
