My Students

South Middle School has a thriving GUITAR program to help bring music to students who don't fit the traditional band, choir, and orchestra mold. These students learn to read music, strum rock songs, and play killer riffs. These students have won several contests including a meet and greet with Weezer, an autographed guitar from Collective Soul, and were recognized by the Country Music Association and Radio Disney with awards in 2017. The program has taught nearly 1,000 middle school students to play guitar over its years of existence.

My Project

Our school offers a unique opportunity to our middle school students -

the opportunity to learn to play the guitar!

South Middle School has a thriving guitar program that is seeing record-setting enrollment, with nearly 175 students enrolled this school year. Our class is in need of a new bass guitar to play during our concerts. We incorporate acoustic, electric, and bass guitars into a full ensemble. We play everything from classical to rock and really learn a lot while we are having fun. As a teacher, I have seen the guitar reach students in a way that is truly mesmerizing!
