My Students

My classroom is organized chaos. We are always having fun while we are learning! By creating a classroom economy, they are learning and having fun at the same time!

Many of our students come from poor households.

This past year was my first year at this school, and I was so discouraged when I found out that some of my students have never been to a restaurant or shopping for clothes. Some students barely have the supplies they need for school, so I know they will be so excited that they can "buy" things they like at my classroom store.

My Project

This is the first year that I will be trying to create this classroom economy. Students will have jobs that they get "paid" for. Every two weeks they can visit the classroom store to buy items such as lanyards, pens, key chains, novelty erasers, small toys, etc. Through this, they will learn how to behave properly in a store, how to budget, how to take percentages off of the price when we have a sale, supply and demand, and much more. I have requested a banker rolling table and chair for my student banker and several items for the store such as sharpeners, stickers, and novelty erasers.

I teach 5th and 6th graders at a school in a low socioeconomic area.

The majority of our students come from poverty and many receive free or reduced price lunches. Some students have never been out of our town, much less see how an economy works by going shopping. These students will be truly grateful for an opportunity to earn prizes that they otherwise couldn't afford, and they will be learning during this fun process!
