My Students

In my classroom, students learn that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics can be creative, exciting, and filled with purpose. Students learn STEM by addressing authentic problems in our community, city, and on planet earth.

The student body at my school is diverse in many regards; I teach students from Mexico, China, Yemen, Bangladesh, the Dominican Republic, and several other nations.

My classroom represents a broad variety of cultures, languages, learning styles and needs. Knowing this, I strive to create an environment that is supportive of the diversity my students bring to our school. I believe our differences strengthen us, and my aim is to cultivate a positive classroom community that fosters civic engagement.

Project-based learning, personalized learning, and authentic learning experiences make sure that every student has an opportunity to learn in a dynamic environment.

My Project

Birdwatching is one of my personal passions and this year I want to share that with my students. Our school is a short few blocks from not one, but two of the Northeast's most productive birdwatching locations: Prospect Park and the historic Greenwood Cemetery. Getting my students outside to bird in an after school program is an opportunity to reconnect them with nature, create a space for them to safely socialize while the pandemic persists, and foster a deep connection to and sense of stewardship for the natural world (Not to mention great exercise!) Binoculars, books, compasses, and a wildlife camera for our school courtyard will give us everything we need to step out the door of our school an into the natural beauty that surrounds us, even in the United States' most populous city.
