My Project

One of the things I love most about being a librarian at a K-8 school is being part of our students' reading journey for so many years. Our students are enthusiastic voracious readers who love participating in reading challenges and activities. Our 4th and 5th graders got to participate in the SP Library's Global Reading Challenge, but there was nothing like this for our middle school readers. It is so important to keep their passion for reading alive throughout middle school, which is why all the K-8 librarians came together three years ago to create Battle of the Books!

These 8 books were selected by our librarian team for the third annual Battle of the Books for middle school students at K-8 schools!

They include diverse representation, and a variety of genres, and are all amazing!

The students will be in teams of 5-7 and will spend the next 2 months reading and rereading these wonderful books. They will compete in a school-based challenge to see which team can answer the most questions correctly. Then the winning teams from each K-8 school will compete in a citywide final in hopes of being crowned the K-8 Battle of the Books Champions!

The students are beyond excited and they can't wait to get the books so they can start reading!
