This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello, I am a NYC high school science teacher. I teach biology lecture as well as the accompanying lab, which is taken mostly by 9th and 10th grade students. As with most city schools our student population is extremely diverse racially, economically and academically.

It is because of this last category, academic ability, that I am asking for your help. Within any individual class, you will find the a wide range of academic skill levels. It has become increasing difficult to differentiate lessons so that all students in a class are best served, especially with the decrease in a public school funding. However, activities such as the microslide viewers allow students who understand the content to dig deeper into a subject area, while those students who are struggling are able to get more individual help.

Each set of slides comes with a reading and questions that are based on the reading and slides themselves. Then there are extension activities that can be completed by the advanced students, leaving the teacher time in class to work with those students that really need the extra help!!

With your help, we can ensure that all students in my classes receive the best possible education. Together we can challenge each and every one of my students to work at levels that are both achievable and educational!!!
