I currently teach 4th grade at PS34 in Brooklyn. While we have a science program, we are severely lacking in science lab equipment. I will be doing a plant and animal cell study, and I would like to do experiments and investigations with my students. However, I only have two microscopes for my 29 students. With the microscopes the students will be able to look at plant and human cells. I plan to bring in leaves and vegetables. Also they can swab their inside cheek and look at human cells. After the cell study I plan to do a unit on ecosystems. We could use the microscopes during that, and any future science units. The microscopes will enable my current and future students to gain first hand knowledge of plant and animal cells. Fourth graders love science, and with the lack of microsopes it would not be possible to do some of my planned lessons. I am looking for 15 microscopes, so that I could partner the children. Also I plan to share the microscopes with my collesgue so that her class can study the same unit. Thank you in advance.
