My Students

Microscopes are one of the most fundamental tools for exploring the world. Without them, we would have no idea about the existence of cells, how plants breathe or how rocks change over time. Our understanding of the world around us would be severely limited with what humans can see unaided.

Our school is a diverse, multicultural, inner-city school that is dedicated to providing a rigorous and relevant instructional program.

I teach two equally wonderful 5th grade classes in math and science. I maintain high expectations for all students and truly believe in our students and their success. At our school, to ensure that all learners achieve, a bilingual program, instructional modifications, special needs accommodations and individualized attention are provided for diverse learners. Another high priority is the appreciation of cultural diversity, which is evident in all aspects of our school program. Students understand and respect the variety of cultures represented at our school. Our school aims to inspire students to become well-rounded learners and individuals.

My Project

We live in a beautiful world and that beauty and complexity extends far beyond what humans can see unaided. From plant and animal anatomy to cells and proteins and even down to the level of atoms, there are worlds within worlds of detail to be explored on the microscopic scale. With these compound microscopes, my students will have the opportunity to collaborate in groups to observe, analyze and experiment with different topics in earth and life science. Some of these topics include, but are not limited to, crystals, bacteria, protozoa, cells, tissues and other microscopic subjects. These activities will enrich student learning and curiosity in the natural sciences and other STEM-related content.

By donating to this project, you will create opportunities for my student to learn these scientific ideas and skills that are not currently available to them.

These microscopes would greatly increase the amount of hands-on collaborative learning experience I can provide and hopefully inspire some of our future help inspire biologists, chemists, nurses and doctors!
