My Students

We are a public school arts program serving 140 NYC DOE students annually from diverse backgrounds with 95% avg. daily attendance. Students participate in pre-conservatory training, preparing them for film school and life long learning in the arts.

Located in Astoria, Queens, our film program offers students access to complex histories and neighborly stories as subjects for narrative and documentary projects.

Similarly, the film students explore programming throughout the school in dance, drama, and other performing arts studios producing documentaries about school performances and individuals within the school community. Film students are curious and resourceful and often initiate cross-disciplinary projects with English and Social Studies classes, providing leadership in media production as they explore career in Film Production, Screenwriting, Photography, Public Relations, Marketing, and Journalism.

My Project

We hope to add new microphones to sound production kits for all of our film students. They will improve the production value of their projects by improving sound quality, especially in thesis work completed for their junior and senior years where the creative use of audio is essential for expressive filmmaking.

Sound can make or break a film.

High quality production value means our student's work will stand out in the saturated media environment, student festival competitions, and the college admissions process.

As film students also support their peers in other art forms, the improved visuals will help to celebrate the achievements of all the artists in the school. This enhanced exposure will reverberate in the careers of these artists for years to come.
