This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a computer science teacher in a community facing significant resource constraints, I am continuously inspired by the incredible students that pass through my classroom. Despite the hurdles they navigate daily, their boundless creativity, curiosity, and passion for technology fill me with excitement for the future. I witness their minds spark with ideas, fingers fly across keyboards, and faces light up with pride as they bring digital visions to life. These young innovators are not just my students - they are the trailblazers and changemakers who will shape technology's future, if given the chance to flourish.

That's why I'm eager to incorporate micro:bits.

These programmable devices will open up hands-on, project-based learning that I know will captivate and empower my students, providing experiences and skills that may otherwise be out of reach. With micro:bits, they'll bring coding to life, creating interactive projects combining hardware, software, and their imagination. The sense of achievement when they see their code come alive will inspire them to keep exploring and pushing boundaries.

Through micro:bit projects, my students will solidify programming concepts and develop essential skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaboration. Their curiosity and enthusiasm will fuel the design process as they ideate, prototype, and iterate. These skills will serve them well, helping to break the cycle of disadvantage they face.

My goal is to cultivate fearless, forward-thinking computer science pioneers - students unafraid to tinker, experiment, and take risks. With micro:bits, I can make that vision reality, empowering my students to become the tech innovators and digital changemakers of tomorrow. These young minds are special, and I'm honored to nurture their love of technology, despite the challenges they face.
