My Students

Finding out a little bit about the mystery of the microscopic world is often very exciting to students. "What tiny creatures are living on the surfaces of the objects we touch every day?" The yearly bacterial study conducted in our Biology classes is one that engages and motivates our students.

Our students are urban high school kids, most of whom are underprivileged.

The high school is the largest in our city and provides students with many opportunities, however it is struggling due to underfunding. Our students are bright and deserve experiences that will interest them and keep them engaged.

My Project

We are requesting supplies for a bacterial study of the surfaces in our school. Students will learn aseptic technique and grow colonies of bacteria to study. Each year this activity is one that students can't stop talking about and with budget constraints we do not want to have to remove it from the curriculum. Your help will supply us with the safety equipment and culturing equipment needed to do this experiment.

Microbiology is a very abstract subject for our students.

The ability to allow bacterial colonies to form gives students the chance to make the subject become more relevant and real.
