MHS Scientific Calculators

My students need new scientific calculators. We have 12 math classrooms and this will provide us 15 new calculators in each room.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our students deserve the best education they can receive. The funding of new calculators is needed and will help our students advance in their mathematics classes. Students will use these calculators on a daily basis for projects, assignments and tests.

Our starting date this school year was postponed by the shooting of a former student and community member by a police officer.

Our students have missed 7 days of school due to the protests, looting and vandalism in the community that has followed this shooting. What has begun is our fall sports programs, whom many coaches have communicated that our students are more than ready to return to their school and further their educational goals. Many of our students cannot afford a calculator of their own. This year, our district is starting a federal program that allows all students to receive free lunches, not only those whose family incomes qualify them for free and reduced-price lunches. 68 percent of our students received free and reduced lunches last year, though it is likely that the real percentage is higher but some families never filled out the paperwork.

My Project

Our students will use these calculators in class daily to complete in class assignments, projects, tests, and to begin their homework. They will be fully educated on how to use this technology which will also be used beyond high school, in college or technical classes.

This project will make a difference in all 12 of our mathematics by helping our students achieve their educational goals as a high school student, and they will learn to use the calculators which will help them in their pursuits beyond high school, either in college or technical courses that require this knowledge.
