it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

When I look at my school population of students, the one thing I notice is how culturally diverse they are. I have students who come from Mexico, Africa, Asia, and Polynesian Islands. I work at a Title I school where 88% of the students qualify to receive free lunch. I love coming to work every day because I get to share my love of art, history, and mathematics with my students. In return, they are teaching me about their personal culture. Most of my students come from low-income homes where they experience many struggles daily. But do they show this? No, they show me that the world will not bring them down and that they are excited to learn something new every day when they walk into my room.
My Project
I am requesting markers so my students can create Traditional Mexican Sun and Moon Folk Art. Mexican Folk Art has been influenced by many things, including nature, landscapes, and religion. Some work expresses traditional mythologies and beliefs. Other work reflects Christianity, especially Catholicism, which arrived in Mexico during the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. The Sun and Moon design is found vastly created in many of these works of art. The Sun symbolizes firmness, strength, and power. While the moon represents calmness, beauty, nurturing. These are also symbols used to represent ancestral gods for the Mayan, Incan, and Aztec people. My project is to have my students create a Sun and Moon Folk Art Piece by experimenting with design, color, and measurements. To make sure students' Sun, Moon, and Ray's are placed accurately we will be using compasses and rulers to measure and place their shapes symmetrically on their paper. After their drawing process is complete, we will use the markers to color in their Sun and Moon Folk Art using a warm and cool color scheme. Warm colored markers will be used for the Sun side. Cool colored markers will be used for the Moon side. Being able to provide my students with a large variety of colored markers will allow them to experience a high quality of finished product. This is one of my students' favorite pieces to make every year but having access to a variety of colored markers makes these Sun and Moon Folk Art pieces much more vibrant and wonderful.
