Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My goals for this project are to teach students how to render the human face in 3 dimensions, and how to express emotions through their pieces, using color, shape, and of course facial expression. These pieces will be inspired by examples of Mexican folk art masks using animals and different appendages such as horns and wings as symbolism, as well as Dominican and Puerto Rican carnival masks, with their dramatic colors, wild shapes, and curling horns.

This paper clay is super strong, moldable, and forgiving, offering students limitless possibilities as they create their sculptures.

It doesn't shrink and crack unlike most other clays, meaning you can make huuuge wildly shaped pieces with it. This amount of creative freedom from a sculpture project would really help to inspire some fantastic creations in my art room.
