My Students

I teach a special education/early childhood preschool program in a rural Utah town. My students consist of special education students, along with typically developing children who serve as peer models. I have quite the spectrum of ability levels in my classroom from differently-abled children who are experiencing their first time away from parents, all the way up to students who are reading on their own.

I love teaching a broad spectrum of students, who grow and learn together.

I think what I enjoy the most about children is their ability to explore the world around them and find wonder in their imaginations.

The reason I feel that our program is so special is that it is the only time that special education children will experience full inclusion with their typically developing peers. I have seen so many benefits for developing children as they learn and play with each other.

My Project

Our school is taking on a challenge that will change the lives of our young preschool students! We are starting a specific mentoring program with buddy boxes for the youngest students with disabilities in our preschool that are at risk for not achieving their full potential academically, falling into at-risk patterns socially, and other potential factors that could hinder their educational success in the future.

Each child is paired with a mentor who will work with their buddy on topics such as counting, reading, turn-taking, science (weather), art, and self-worth/perception which are all topics in the activities we've selected.

Each student will have a chance to meet in our learning lounge hideaway with an assigned mentor each morning while they complete academic activities like Magnetic Language Rods, Magnetic Math Learning Rods, Lakeshore Alphabet Rockets, FeedTheAnimals Fine Motor Games, and Natural Stack and Sort Board.
