My Students

I teach amazing ESOL kindergartens that come from all corners of the world. We take a lot of time to learn about different cultures and backgrounds. They ask thoughtful questions and give amazing compliments about the things that make us different. I've taught in this community for many years and I just absolutely love how happy these kids are to come to school everyday. My students truly make me a better teacher (and human!) on a daily basis!

My Project

In kindergarten, we love reading and listening to stories. Our school is using a new writing program that has several incredible mentor text to help students in their writing journey. Narratives, opinion, expository, and how-to, our kindergartners will be learning it all!

These books will not only continue to enhance the text rich environment that I strive to create in my classroom, but will also be examples of several types of writing.

Writing can be a challenging task for some students. When I have included a mentor text into my writing lessons, I have seen more engagement as well as increased retention of the writing lesson. Every year I have watch how students grow a love for reading, I cannot wait to see how these mentor texts will not only continue that love but also begin a new love for writing and story telling.
