My Project
The books I have requested will create diversity in students' reading. The books will help students pull a variety of different sentences from them to help with their grammar learning. In our third-grade classroom, we do a mentor sentence from books like these.
Who knew the parts of speech could be so engaging? With this project, students get to enjoy the book and then we pull a sentence from the book to study it. We do multiple things with this mentor sentence such as copying it, labeling the parts of speech in it, expanding the sentence, and trying to write a similar sentence. By doing this, we believe we are expanding students' horizons by having them listen to books that they might have not picked up off the shelf. While we are doing that, they are applying their grammar skills with the mentor sentence.
