Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our knitting class students are learning to knit and discover a wonderful method of relaxation and meditation for their mental health while contributing to the greater community by donating their creations such as hats and mufflers.

Knitting does not come easily for most students and in the beginning they struggle to coordinate their hands, fingers, and eyes.

They are learning patience and the satisfaction of seeing the fruits of their labor in their hands. I have been gratified to observe their perseverance despite many frustrations at the beginning. They hold a high standard even though I do not demand it from them. When they are able to knit well, the delight in their eyes make all the work worth it. Then they finally understand that through the repetition of knitting they are able to relax and "meditate" as their hands take over their minds.

I would like for them to be able to work with good materials. Good yarn can ease and limit the frustrations of learning to knitting. Our goal is to create products such as hats and mufflers to donate to charity this winter.
