My Project

These supplies will help make sure that my students have a comfortable and peaceful learning experience, that they can feel at home, and safe in. A place for learning and challenging themselves, especially as so many of them struggle with the additional stressors being a senior brings.

Many of my students have struggled to feel safe and welcome in schools, and these resources will go a long way to help rectify this injustice.

School was always an important place for me, a place where I could push myself and grow, and I hope it can be the same for my students.

Having covers for the harsh florescent lights makes the classroom homier and easier for students with disabilities. Having squishy fidgets helps students self-regulate and calm themselves while pushing themselves mentally. Growing plants, even looking at living plants, has been demonstrated to reduce stress in people, and participating in maintaining the plants helps make the classroom feel like it belongs to them. Finally, smell is the sense most closely related to memory and emotion. Bringing calming and relaxing scents into the otherwise clinic classroom can help make the classroom feel more welcoming.

By bringing these items into the classroom, my students will be better regulated, learn how to self regulate, and develop independence and ownership of the classroom, leading to better mental health across the board. My students deserve to feel welcome, to feel ownership of their living space, and this project will help make that happen.
