Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The peace room is a space at my school that gives student a safe environment to de-escalate and practice using their coping skills to calm down when school becomes overwhelming. Teachers send their students to this space when students have difficulties with peers, at home, or suffer from anxiety attacks.

My goal is to provide comfortable seating with the vinyl couch and healthy coping skills for students to use.

Students respond positively to stress balls and snacks to help them reach their baseline. My students come from a community where mental health is stigmatized. This classroom gives them a space to learn how to express their emotions comfortably.
