Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This proposal aims to establish a calm and welcoming environment for high school students to support their mental health and well-being. By creating a dedicated space equipped with sensory floor tiles, fidget toys, social-emotional learning tools, calming lighting, a sand tray, a relaxing office chair, and providing snacks and tea, we seek to promote mindfulness, emotional regulation, and peer support among students.

High school students often face significant stressors, including academic pressure, social dynamics, and personal challenges.

These factors can negatively impact their mental health, leading to anxiety, depression, and reduced academic performance.

Many schools lack dedicated spaces for students to manage stress and engage in activities that promote emotional well-being. By creating such a space, we can foster a supportive community that prioritizes mental health.

My goal:

• To create a sensory-friendly space that reduces anxiety and enhances focus for students.

• To provide tools and resources for emotional regulation and social-emotional learning.

• To facilitate peer support groups that encourage open discussions.

• To promote a culture of well-being within the school community.

I will do this with:

• Installation of sensory floor tiles.

• Provision of fidget toys and calming tools.

• Implementation of social-emotional learning programs.

• Establishment of a welcoming space with calming lighting.

• Regular group sessions with snacks and tea.
