My Project
I am a Social Worker in an urban school district and work with students who attend an alternative high school. Many of our students come from low-income households, making it difficult for them to afford the necessary supplies for their education and personal needs. Additionally, our students have faced adverse challenges which have led them to complete their education in an alternative program. Some of our students are parenting teens and others are working full-time or part-time jobs to financially support themselves and their families. However, despite any challenges or obstacles our students may face, they are bright, resilient, and determined to graduate from high school.
I will be facilitating a weekly social/emotional group that will enable teen girls to discuss some of the stressors they face as well as work on identifying and practicing healthy coping skills to better manage school and personal stressors.
Additionally, I would like for the teens to have access to personal hygiene items that they may need. My ultimate goal is to support students in improving their ability to cope with life's stressors, which improves their ability to achieve success in their academic studies.
