Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a mental health counselor at an elementary school and provide socio-emotional support to kinder through 5th grade students. My kiddos are curious, kind-hearted, funny, and they teach me so much every day. Some days can be a challenge, but seeing how much growth my students make and how many obstacles they're able to overcome throughout the school year is a constant reminder of why I do what I do.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I'm requesting will help create a comfortable, safe, and welcoming space where I can help my students talk about the difficulties they are experiencing and learn how to advocate for their mental health needs.

Some of the items (like the squishy toys, stickers, and erasers) will be used as an incentive to motivate students to reach their counseling goals and participate in class discussions when I visit classrooms for weekly socio-emotional learning lessons.

The bubble machine will be used to add a fun and engaging touch to our school-wide mental health events, and the books requested will be used to engage students in discussions surrounding sometimes difficult topics.
