My Project

The items I am requesting will support in making my classroom the safe and calm environment that it should be. My students have always complained about the fluorescent lights and how classrooms always look "ugly." They have even told me that they feel unmotivated to learn when their environment isn't inviting. Well, this upcoming school year, I'D LIKE TO PROVE THEM WRONG!

Students thrive in an environment that they feel is inviting, calming and exciting!

As a Special Education/Math teacher, I know firsthand how much students despise Algebra. This project will invite them to enjoy the math journey and show them that math is not the scary thing that they thought it would be. The lamps and wall decor will make them feel comfortable and happy while learning the subject. The motivational posters will allow them to feel like they are a part of a bigger math community when they walk into my classroom. The candle warmer will allow us to have a beautifully scented classroom, where everyone feels happy and in a good mental state for learning. The Nespresso pods will be offered to students during their lunch if they would like to attend "Lunch & Learn" sessions in my math classroom to support them with completing independent assignments.

Overall, I know that my students enjoy a classroom that feels like home. In the past, many of my students have expressed that math gives them "anxiety," and I would truly like to change that! Mental health matters-- especially to my kiddos. I want them to truly feel like Algebra is fun and valuable! This project will be the stepping stone needed for my students to grow a love of learning math.
