My Project

I'm the sole school counselor at Lincoln High School in Arkansas and I've been here for 7 years. We are a high needs school with low SES in our families. I'm often busy with a student in crisis, so I'm not always available every time another student needs to see me. I'll also be out on maternity leave at the end of this year, leaving them without a counselor for over a month.

I would love to be able to provide my teachers, and in turn my students, with a calming kit for their classrooms.

These kits would have things that students often use in my room to regulate and calm their anxiety in the moment, such as kinetic sand, fidgets, stress balls, etc. I wanted to pick items that teachers could easily keep at their desks and that would not cause too much distraction.

I think having these items readily available in their classrooms will help students get through the day and manage their mental health to the best of their abilities.
