Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will support students, grades K-5, living in temporary housing, find a safe space to learn and build healthy coping skills to deal with daily stressors that impact their academic performance.

Noise canceling headphones have proven to be effective in reducing anxiety and stress.

To develop self-management skills, the bookshelf will allow students to access supplies without having to ask for help. Instead of feeling like they are walking into a cold office, framing the calming corner posters, and placing a rug and lamp in the office, will offer a warm home-like feeling to the space, which many children in temporary housing do not experience.

My students either live in shelters, doubled-up, or are homeless/unhoused. Some of them are asylum seekers. They are very resilient, and they need a calming place to decompress and process feelings during the school day.
