My Project

Students come to the library for many things, books, games, computers, and friendly company and I often get asked if I have any pads or tampons for menstruating students. Two years ago I wrote a DonorsChoose project to get a menstruation station. Since we received the grant, students come to the library and grab what they need, tampons, pads, and/or informational pamphlets on menstruation. It's very popular and we are running out of supplies!

Menstruating when you are in puberty can be a stressful time, and access to free supplies help take an unnecessary burden off of students.

Using the library as a place to hold these supplies helps students access them quickly and privately. The school nurse is very busy with pandemic-related duties and having access to period supplies allows students to get back to their learning quicker.

I have a small display set up with age-appropriate nonfiction books about puberty as well as the graphic novel, "Go With The Flow" so that students can check out these books if they want more information.
