Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the last couple of years, roughly 66% of high school students have dropped out of school in New York City.

Since 2009, from the time that I got the opportunity to coach at APR, 100% of my student-athletes have graduated High School.

My name is Mr. G. I serve as the Boys Varsity Head Coach at APRHS. One of the main hurdles that I have encountered as a head coach yearly, is finding funds for our teams.

The population that I coach is very resilient. They are not your average high school student-athletes. The majority of my student-athletes have extra responsibilities that entail babysitting little siblings, babysitting grandparents, potential after school employment due to family financial hurdles, and most importantly, they still need to meet their academic daily goals. Academia is always top priority in my program!

My Project

Film has allowed our program to improve. The use of an iPad will allow our guys to watch film during games and during their pre-warm-up ritual. Many of our students have multiple prep periods during the school day to complete extra academic work. If academic work is completed, they have free time to rest or prep for the rest of the day. During that prep time, we would love all our guys to be with a coach and watch film in the library location. The iPad will make it a lot easier for students-athletes to learn tendencies and improve their overall game.
