This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in a school with many students who come from low income families. About 81% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. Despite challenges in and out of school, my students are imaginative, curious, inquisitive, and hardworking. I want to foster their love of learning! I want to give my students experiences, resources, and opportunities that they may not always receive at home. I want my classroom to be a place for them to explore, feel safe, question, converse, and grow.

My Project

I have typically had my students doing morning work when they arrive. I want to make the switch from worksheets to fun & engaging morning tubs. Students who arrive late don't have time to finish the worksheets anyways. Hopefully these educational games, building materials, and craft supplies will inspire creativity, tolerance, cooperation, and good sportsmanship. After PreK and kindergarten students get fewer opportunities for hands on play time. These play opportunities build their social skills & their fine motor skills.

Especially with the recent focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math), I believe children need opportunities to explore, challenge, manipulate, experiment, and construct.

Please help me bring these amazing, kid friendly materials into my classroom. My students will love starting their day in this way! My hope is that they learn from these activities and this morning tub time builds a stronger classroom community!
