This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My middle school students with Autism learn best through sensory play and it can be a struggle to meet their mental health needs with limited resources. Donors like you can greatly enhance the learning experience of my students with these materials.

Visuals are essential for non verbal students.

They offer students the ability to communicate their wants and needs. It allows them to have access to the curriculum in a way that is meaningful. With the colored paper, card stock, velcro, ink and laminating sheets, students will have created visuals and hands on materials to keep them engaged.

Many of my students enjoy interactive learning tools like puzzles, building blocks and tactile numbers. These items give students the opportunity to choose what will best meet their needs. Being able to give my students choices can alleviate some of their frustration and allow them to try and self regulate.

A few of my students have difficulty doing work seated at a desk. Flexible seating, like the yoga ball chair, will give my students who have a hard time sitting, a way to meet their sensory needs in order to complete tasks.

The donations to this project will help to strengthen the learning environment of my students and allow me to give them the tools they need to succeed.
