Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a kindergarten and first-grade self-contained class. Most of my students have autism and have a lot of needs that are not met by the general education curriculum. I teach at a public school in the Bronx and am not able to receive extra items that my students truly need. A water table will help meet certain sensory needs that are not otherwise met by fidget toys that are found in classroom. A water table is a specific sensory tool that will allow my students to take breaks from learning to meet their sensory needs. These productive breaks will allow them to come back and be able to focus on their learning.

Play is essential in developing social skills as well as fostering learning.

A play kitchen would be a wonderful addition to have because my students need a lot of support with pretend play, as well as learning social skills. This kitchen will be an engaging spot for them to learn how to share with each other. It will also help teach them life skills that they may not otherwise learn. My students need these items in order to help them focus on their learning and engage in fun and meaningful play with their peers.

My classroom is special because my students are all on the Autism Spectrum. They need special sensory tools to enhance their learning and allow them to thrive. Please help my students learn and grow by helping me fund this project!
