My Students

This pandemic has significantly changed my role as a school psychologist. Spending endless hours conducting well-being check-ins with our community families, finding resources for food, healthcare, and rent relief, all the while quarantined and worried about the mental health of our students. Our high school student body’s total minority enrollment is 90%. The total economically disadvantaged students are 88%. Students here have the opportunity to take AP and IB courses. This high school also has an honors art program! This high school is 1 of 107 - thus the budget is sparse.

My Project

Our students need more! The Chicago Public Schools will continue virtual learning this fall due to the pandemic. As a school psychologist, I will continue to counsel students, individually and in groups. Last spring I attended a webinar that gave me the idea to send my students "thinking of you" and encouragement cards. It was easy enough to do and so worth it. The student feedback was overwhelmingly positive! This fall I want to do more and share follow-up written materials that support our work beyond the session itself. I will personally mail such brochures and pamphlets to students I counsel individually or in groups. I would also like to use the materials to continue to create mental health presentations to our students and parents!
