Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine what it feels like to come to school and not know what is going on? A foreign language, English, is being spoken and with grade level texts, you only understand about 75% of the words. Unfortunately, many of my students are in this situation.

My students are English Language Learners.

Many of them come to me below grade level and with limited academic vocabulary and social vocabulary. Even though they struggle, they are so passionate about their learning. They ask for help when they don't understand something and slow down to think in order to speak English. You can see them visualizing words in their minds to get a sentence out. Best of all, they eagerly seek out help in order to catch up to their peers!

My Project

The items I need for intervention are: 1) Nonfiction Reading Comprehension Set 2) Idioms and Multiple Meaning Magnetic Activity Set 3) Crack the Case Inference Activity Set 4) High Interest Intervention Reading Set 5) Language Student Cards Activity Set These resources are specific for intervention with my eager but struggling students. The resources range from grade 1 to grade 5. It will allow me to meet the student where they are at and be able to move up the grade levels as they demonstrate mastery. The resources will focus on reading skills; such as phonics, inferencing, sequencing, cause and effect, important details, and compare and contrast. Additionally, it will focus on writing skills; such as grammar, writing a complete sentence, contractions, and writing a paragraph.

With these materials, I will be able to have centers with a different focus and have students moving, learning and having fun!
