My students need proper seating solutions, items to meet their fine motor and sensory needs. Items needed are seat cushions/wedges, a T-stool, adapted scissors, fidgets, letter/number cards for tracing.

My Students

Children learn about the world through their senses. Children with autism spectrum disorders, however, often have unusual responses to the senses of hearing, sight, touch, smell and/or movement. These responses can interfere with learning and affect behavior.

My students are autistic and range in age from 5 to 10 years old.

They receive special instruction in small classrooms, along with related services throughout the school day, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech.

My students present with delays in strength, coordination, motor planning, etc. Many have difficulty attending for extended periods of time, and demonstrate sensory-seeking behaviors.

My Project

This project will help meet my students' sensory needs. They will have more success within the school environment with the supplies and resources requested. The seating options will help my students remain seated during tabletop tasks and provide sensory input at the same time.

Sensory processing problems are common among children with autism and these items will supplement the resources available in the classroom, in therapy, and when transitioning throughout the day.

My goal is for my students to be as independent as possible in the classroom and school environment. I have requested letter/number tracing cards, seating options, adapted scissors, fidgets, and other items for sensory input.
