My Students

We are a small, culturally diverse school with students from Pre-K through fifth grade. My students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and have diverse learning needs.

My students will be some of our future artists, engineers, scientists, mathematicians, authors, politicians, and teachers.

My students have a love of learning and are hungry for knowledge. They are inquisitive. They strive to be successful. My students love using technology and participating in hands-on learning activities. They also enjoy working with each other. Sometimes they work at their desks and other times they find a place on the carpet to spread out their materials to work with a partner or team.

My Project

Our class is a second and third grade combo. I often work with one grade level while the other grade works independently. If I am working with a small group, we will work together at a table. Other times, I call my students down to the carpet to work.

A rug will give my students a specific place to meet on the carpet.

I often find one or two of my students tucked around the corner of a desk. They are on the carpet, but they are out of my line of sight so I cannot imagine that they can actually see what we are working on together on the board. Additionally, they are not participating as much when they are off to the side of our meeting area. A rug will help me remind students exactly where they are expected to sit for our lesson so they an focus and participate more.
