My Students

I want my classroom to be a place students WANT to come every day, not HAVE to come every day. Aside from their parents, I spend the most time with them. I get to know them personally and academically. Each student is different, each year is different, this is why I love my job. I love being able to figure out what makes them excited to come to school every day, which makes them learn, and how I can help or possibly inspire them to reach their full potential.

My school is located in South Los Angeles where 100% of the students receive free lunch.

Most of my students speak English as a second language but are now in a mainstream English classroom. They come from a variety of homes and economic backgrounds. I have some parents that are teachers, some that are construction workers, and some that work more than one job to make ends meet. What they all have in common is a desire to give their child the best education possible.

My Project

My classroom is a bungalow. It’s old, falling apart, and not very inviting. All my desks are mismatched and varying heights. This makes my job of creating an inviting learning space a little bit harder. This rug will impact my students in 2 ways. First, they will enter into a brighter classroom everyday, this will motivate them to be there, and increase their productivity. Second, students have a really hard time sitting for extended periods of time. A rug, or common meeting place, will give them an option to change their seating several times per day and get away from their desks for a little bit.
