My Students

How do you take eager STEM lovers to the next level? Provide them with more advanced materials to measure, explore and build with! These materials will allow students to deepen their knowledge in a variety of STEM units, Kindergarten through 5th grade!

My students represent a diverse group of PS through 5th graders in Northeast Washington, DC.

Our DC Public School is one that truly values inquiry and learning by doing and our students continue to rise to our expectations every day. From the youngest preschool student to the oldest 5th grade student, all receive science instruction in the classroom and practice in Habits of Mind using their Multiple Intelligences in my Think Tank/STEM program. Our unique school is a special one, with over 350 unique and eager learners who thrive on hands-on, inquiry-based learning. These materials would benefit all students at Maury in a variety of STEM units.

My Project

Over the next few months, students in all grades will engage in many explorations: electricity, matter, structure building, motion and more! These materials will supplement these lessons allowing for students to gain a deeper knowledge. Triple-beam balances and digital scales will all give accurate measurement during conservation of matter units. Marble runs and "Suspend" will engage active learners in concepts of balance and motion. Batteries will help light up our electricity unit. Each of these items will lead to richer experiences for our students and allow them to be more scientific in the process!

This project will directly impact students by allowing them to begin to make quantitative measurements during projects to combine with their qualitative observations.

They will have new ways to experience phenomena and ALL the materials they could possibly need to do so! These materials will be the final step in ensuring the science lab has each of the materials needed to complete our next units and inspire students in many areas of STEM.
