Meaningful Math Manipulatives at your Seat

Help me give my students the tools to investigate mathematical concepts such as place value and graphing independently. Due to Covid restrictions, the number of manipulative sets will also allow each child to have them at their seat.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school serving approximately 1000 kindergarten to fifth grade students. Our school has high expectations for student learning and work diligently to provide rigorous instruction that will increase academic achievement in all areas. Students research, collaborate and create projects while practicing and learning new technology skills.

While the high expectations we have are for ALL students, we recognize that not all students come with the same resources, support, or experiences.

While some students are well prepared to take on the challenges of learning, others lack some of the basic knowledge especially in the area of Math.

My Project

During this time of social distancing, teachers are working to figure out how to engage students with Math content while maintaining a sense of safety. Decreased opportunities for small groups and partner work has made this a challenge.

In 5th grade, concepts such as place value, fractions, decimals, and graphing can be difficult to teach if students don't have access to the proper tools to investigate them.

Individual graphing boards will allow students to not only practice at their seat but will allow for multiple uses due to write on/wipe off ability. Base ten blocks and mat sets will allow students who need the visual to lay out their blocks at their seat. The fraction numbers lines will provide both a visual, the write on/wipe of ability, and allow each student to have their own number line to use each day.
