My Students

Hand-on learning changes students learning! My enthusiastic second graders are located in a rural setting. 60% of our student population are on free and reduced lunch. Most of my student's families don't have extra funds to invest in extracurricular classes...classes that aren't available in our rural area (and aren't within driving distance if they did have the funds). Unfortunately our district has limited funds to invest in hand-on learning.

These enthusiastic students share the same potential to learn and grow as the students I taught in California and Denver, Colorado.

However, we need your help to obtain materials.

Please help me bring hands-on opportunities to these students. Geography does not affect ability, but it impacts opportunity.

My Project

Too often science plays second fiddle to reading and math. I aim to bring meaningful hands-on science experiences to my students. The materials center around magnets, an important part of second grade science standards. Included in my wish are a wide variety of magnets (wands, building and construction blocks) to create stations as well as books to further engagement. Nearly all the materials are non-consumable, meaning they'll be used for years to come.

Your contribution allows me to fuel a love of learning and ignite further curiosity in sciences.
