My Students

Can you imagine a day without your phone? How about going a day without email? Imagine writing out your bosses project proposal by hand...first a draft, then edit, and finally a published piece. No spell check, no delete button. That's a day in the life of a 6th grader and it's not the real world.

The kids in my 6th grade class are starving for innovation.

Coming from a Title I, K-8 school, with almost the entire population receiving free lunch because of economic restraints, innovation and resources are hard to come by. But ready or not, the world marches on with or without them. It's my job, my responsibility and my privilege to give them the best opportunity to keep up with the ever-changing and advancing world.

My Project

As NYC progresses and advances to keep up with the common core standards, we have adopted new Math programs in schools. These programs offer online assessment, remediation and advanced work for all students. It's an amazing opportunity for students to use technology in all subjects in preparation for new online state testing as well as "the real world". With limited resources at home, my hope is to get these kids working technologically throughout the school day. The only way i can do that is to acquire some iPads for use in the classroom. With these, they can access math and reading sites that coincide with the curriculum.

This is why we need your help: I have already tried introducing my own personal pieces of technology into the classroom, but we need more.

These kids are hard workers and dedicated to their success. I can only do my best to give them the best head start they can possibly get, but i need you to help me help them.
