My Students

My colleagues and I teach at a Title I school in West Harlem. Many of the students receive free lunch. Our students come from various cultural backgrounds and have various learning needs from all over the world. Many of our students come to school without the necessary materials they need to start off the year on the right foot.

I am very fortunate to loop with my students for this coming year, allowing us to continue our positive relationship and work together to make academic gains.

My Project

I am asking for materials to help my students feel more prepared and confident for the year ahead. No one wants to start the school year feeling like they are at a disadvantage for not having a pencil or a notebook.

This project would help all students feel prepared, loved, and have genuine joy when returning to the classroom in the fall.

I am requesting supplies so that students have more of the materials and tools they need to start the new school year. We use our notebooks and pencils every day across multiple subjects, from stopping and jotting during Reading Workshop to solving multiple-step problems in math. We often use clipboards and whiteboards, so students can flexibly work around the room in a way that is comfortable for them. We are also asking for crayons, which can be integrated into our normal academic day, as well as provide some artistic relief for our learners. While students may be familiar with my room and my teaching, they will be refreshed to see new materials waiting for them on the first day of school.
