Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a special education teacher working in a Title I school. This is a low-income area where the majority of my students are underprivileged. My school currently serves approximately 8 shelters that include services for the homeless and drug rehabilitation centers.

Every day, I come to work realizing that technology will move education farther and faster than ever before.

My students don't have the privilege of coming to school with technological devices and other materials of their own. Although my students face many personal challenges daily, I try to provide them with the best education possible. I want them to have access to all the materials and resources that will allow them to learn and grow independently as the year evolves.

My students mean the world to me! Their happiness is my happiness! With the help of the DonorsChoose.org community, my students will have the chance to explore the innovations of the 21st century.

My Project

These chairs will allow my students to sit comfortably during class time instruction. Good seating ensures that learning goes on and that students make the choices that work best for them. During center time, my students often complain about cracks in the chairs. They become distracted and many times complain about being uncomfortable. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are comfortable.

The chairs that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. These chairs will also allow us to eliminate all chairs that currently have cracks in them. All students should be entitled to good seating options. These chairs will be beneficial for all of my students. They are lightweight and can be easily carried and used in many areas of the classroom.

I have seen how good seating options have positively affected my students' work and demeanor. I hope that these new chairs will help us grow even more!
