My Students

My amazing, creative students dream as big as anyone, but come from homes that often cannot afford the non-necessities that would allow their imaginations to soar. This includes art supplies as simple as a box of crayons and construction paper, or craft supplies like glue and buttons and pipe cleaners. This also includes books -- picture books for parents to read aloud, chapter books children can read to themselves, and illustrated workbooks or sticker books to supplement classroom learning.

Our school is located in a part of New York City where income inequality is impossible to miss.

A 5-minute walk is all it takes to go from public housing to million dollar homes. The inequity affects the resources within our public schools, as well. Lack of funding limits the programs and possibilities we are able to give our students. But our dedicated team of teachers and administrators strive every day to inspire our kids to always dream big and to overcome all obstacles!

My Project

In New York City public schools, students are no longer taught how to write in cursive. Not only does this make it difficult for children to read cursive when they encounter it, it also makes it impossible for them to sign their names as adults -- unless they learn it outside of the basic curriculum.

Please help fund this project for cursive writing workbooks for our fourth and fifth graders.

They will be able to use the workbooks during free time in class and during our weekly arts & crafts lunch club. I am excited to watch them learn and to see how they add their own flourishes to their writing! Thanks for considering our project!
