My Students

Do you remember how frustrating it was to constantly erase the mistakes you made in your math notebook? The paper would rip, the eraser peels would be all over and your work area would be a mess. Imagine having dry erase markers, art supplies, and computers to properly display your work.

In September, I will have 96 dedicated math students who are going to tackle both eighth grade mathematics and the Algebra I material (typically ninth grade) in one school year.

My students lives are hard enough. Some live in shelters, some are the main caretakers for younger siblings, and some do not know where their next meal is going to come from. Despite all of this, students come to my math class wanting to learn. Even with all of this hardship, my students are determined to succeed. Last year, 97% of my students passed the ninth grade level examination. This year, I want all of my students to master the ninth grade material.

My Project

We all know with learning comes frustration, and to master two years worth of material in one year is no easy task. With the materials I have requested, students will be able to work in small teams and properly display their work. Whether it be a poster, a dry-erase board presentation, or by using computer software, students will be proud of their group presentations. Also, with more technology in the classroom I can group students according to what sills they need help on and set up mathematics stations with strategic videos. Students will create informative math videos using iMovie, a mac program. Furthermore, when teaching a whole class students will be able to hold up their dry erase boards using markers so I can see who who is mastering the concepts and who is struggling.

Help get rid of the math curse.

Donate to aid my students in completing two years worth of mathematics instruction in one school year. Allow them to enter high school a year ahead of their peer
