My Students

My students are motivated and beyond excited about learning video editing. This has brought them a new experience that they have taken to new levels and makes them excited to come to school. I want my students to love learning and love technology. I found a way to combine the two and we love it!

While many of my students come from humble beginnings, they are excited about school and eager to learn.

My students are hard working and, like many students today, they love technology. Technology is engaging and can provide an avenue for problem solving like nothing else. My goal is to combine their love of technology with their drive for learning to develop skills that they can take with them for life. My school is a STEM Middle School, meaning that we are dedicated to developing the ideas of science, technology, engineering, and math within our students. We want them to see how these ideas can help them to change the world. We are a Title I school which provides us with many opportunities to engage our learners and I am eager to contribute to our STEM philosophy and vision through this project.

My Project

My middle school offers electives to students as a way of enriching their lives and exposing them to experiences that they might otherwise never have. My elective is titled "Scholar Made Math Movies" and I am teaching my students (scholars) how to use Movie Maker to record and edit video. By the end of each quarter, students will have fully produced their own math movies to show off to our school as well as their families. Right now, we have to record our movies using laptop computers from our school. It is cumbersome and does not allow for the portability that my students desire. We would love to have small, durable cameras that will allow us to make our movies in any location, doing almost any activity.

This project can change the lives of my students by allowing them to use their creativity to create their movies without limiting them to locations and activities that can be captured by the laptop webcam.

These video cameras will give them the freedom to create and experiment with ideas that would not be possible with our current cameras. They are learning a skill that is marketable and can put them on a path to a future in television or movies.
