Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students crave hands on learning and love when they can make an obscure concept concrete through the use of math tools and manipulative's. Doing endless workbook pages and word problems doesn't help them see the connection to math in the real world.

My class is composed of a group of 25 very energetic 7 and 8 year old students.

Our school is located in the Bronx, in a district where students come to us from a wide array of socioeconomic backgrounds. Most children receive free or reduced lunch and are in school from 7:30-4:40, so it is a long day for them. They are very inquisitive and always asking questions. They love to read, sing, write, play and do math!

My Project

If my students and I receive these resources, they will be thrilled to be able to put them to good use in our math area. We will use them to rotate through math learning centers to help the children reach their individual learning goals. They will learn about place value, money, time, geometry and problem solving skills, all with a big smile on their face.

This project will make a huge difference in my classroom because it will provide my students with learning that is hands on and more engaging.

My students will most likely participate more and be more of an active learner when challenging topics become more attainable and fun through the use of these learning games and tools.
